Valuable know-how for cancer patients The 4th Open Cancer Conference, which was held for the first time in Munich and at the ICM – International Congress Centre Munich
on October 15, 2011, allowed cancer patients and their relatives to
gather information about the latest treatment and aftercare
alternatives for cancer. The conference is organized by the German and the Bavarian Cancer Societies.
Diagnosis: Cancer For
those affected, the diagnosis is a shock – and a drastic
experience that interferes deeply in their previous social and
professional lives. Which makes professional psycho-oncological advice
and accurate information more important than ever: “The
conference allowed cancer patients and their relatives to gather
information about the latest treatment alternatives for the most common
types of cancer. Patients found out what they can do to help themselves
and to manage their illness effectively,” explains Gabriele
Brückner, Managing Director of the Bavarian Cancer Society.
Prognosis: Life In
presentations, workshops and roundtable discussions, cancer specialists
presented the latest developments in the early recognition, diagnosis
and treatment of cancer. The programme of events included lectures
on psycho-oncology, modern doctor-patient communication as well as
palliative medicine and natural medicine. The accompanying sports
programme and an exhibition gave visitors at the first Open Cancer
Conference in Munich an opportunity to exchange ideas and information
and to relax. |
